General Description
The MIC26603 DC-DC regulator operates ov er an input
supply range of 4.5V to 28V and provides a regu lat ed output
at up to 6A of outpu t current. The output voltage is a djustable
to 0.8V with a typical accuracy of ±1%, and th e device
operates at a switching frequency of 600kHz. T he switching
frequency remains fairly constant with chang e s in input
voltage and output load.
Micrel’s Hyper Light L oad? architecture p rov ides the
same high-efficiency and ultra-fast transient re sp onse as
the Hyper Speed Control? architecture under m edium to
heavy loads, but also maintains high efficiency un der light
load conditions by transitioning to variable fr equency,
discontinuous mode operation.
The MIC26603 utilizes an adaptive T ON ripp le control
architecture. An undervoltage lockout feature is p r ovided to
ensure proper operation under pow er-sag condi tions. An
internal soft-sta rt feature is provided to reduce th e inrush
current. Foldback current limit and “hiccup” mode sh ort-circuit
protection and thermal shutdown ensures protec tio n of the IC
during fault conditions.

Requirements
The MIC26603 provides a 5V regulated outp ut for input
voltage V IN ranging from 5.5V to 28V. When V IN < 5.5V,
VDD should be tied to PVIN pins to bypass the internal
linear regulator by a jumper. The output load can either be
Getting Started
1. Connect an external supp ly to the V IN terminal.
Apply the desired input voltag e to the V IN and ground
terminals of the evaluation board, paying careful
attention to polarity and supp ly voltage. An ammeter
may be place d between the inp ut supply and the V IN
terminal to the evaluation b oard. Ensure that the
supply voltage is monitored at the V IN terminal. The
ammeter and/or power lead resistance can reduce
the voltage supplied to the in put.
2. Connect the load to th e V OUT and ground
terminals. The load can be e ither passive (resistive)
or active (as in an electronic load). An ammeter can
be placed between the load and the V OUT terminal.
Ensure that the output voltage i s monitored at the
V OUT terminal. V OUT can be set to 0.9V, 1.0V, 1.2V,
1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V, or 5.0V by a jumper. If a
different voltage is needed, it can be adjusted by
changing the feedba ck resistors. See “Output
Voltage ” section.
3. Enable th e MIC266 03 . The EN pin is provided on
th e evalu ation board . The output of th e MIC26603
tu rns on when V DD exceeds the UVLO threshold.
The output of the MIC26603 may be turned off by
shorting the EN pin to ground. A connection on the
board provides easy access to the enable pin.

may damage the device. In addition, the maximum V IN
operating voltage of the MIC26603 evaluation board is
28V. Exceeding 29V on VIN could damage the device
capacitance and also makes (High V IN )/(Low V OUT ).
